Track & Field
All season long, Harrison Horner and Abelardo Rendon have been making headlines for the Westcliff Track & Field team. Friday at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, they showed us why once again, both claiming Cal Pac individual championships.
It’s always awesome to see a Westcliff track and field athlete’s name listed atop a results leaderboard. In the case of sprinter Harrison Horner, who won the Men’s 400M Dash at the Team 4 Titus and Ely Invitational at Concordia last weekend, it’s even more rewarding considering the journey it took to get there.
Olivia Pino brought all the swagger to the shot put ring Saturday at Soka University, where the Westcliff track & field team competed in the last Indoor meet of the season. It was her first competition of the year, and she carried herself confidently with a subtle smile. And for good reason. Pino shattered the Westcliff school record in the event, her best toss reaching 32-feet, 1-inch (9.78m), to set the new mark all Warrior women will pursue from here on out.
By the end of last season, Westcliff’s track and field team had established a couple of names that figured to make a lot of noise in 2023. That time has come. Junior Abelardo Rendon captured his first high-jump gold of the season in his first attempt Friday afternoon in Costa Mesa, where Orange Coast College held its indoor/outdoor invitational.
The Westcliff track team continued its impressive development at the University of Redlands Invitational Friday in Redlands. Abel Rendon and Jalen Bayron both had incredible weeks of practice leading up to the meet and both shined, capturing season best marks. Rendon cleared the high jump at 6-feet, .75-inches, while Bayron finished the 100 in 11.43 seconds and the 200 in 23.72 seconds.
It was a sun-drenched afternoon Saturday at Soka University, where the Westcliff track team impressed at the Indoor Qualifiers. Freshman Jalen Bayron set the Westcliff all-time mark in the 60M Dash, finishing with a time of 7.37 seconds.
